On Wednesday, the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) begun fresh re-negotiations on the 2009 agreement.

After a six-hour meeting, chairman of the FG re-negotiation team, Dr. Wale Babalakin expressed optimism that the meeting would yield positive results.
He said ASUU which was well represented, tabled over 20 issues needing attention.

The Federal Government had earlier held a meeting with stakeholders of ASUU, in a bid to put an end to the industrial action.

The delegation led by the minister for Labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, was also to meet with the delegation of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), following a threat by the NLC to embark on a strike over issues relating to minimum wage.
