Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Thursday insisted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, cannot investigate the finances of the State has it does not have the power.

Governor Wike stated this at the Government House, Port Harcourt, when he received the Managing Director designate of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Ebenezer Oyeagwu.

The EFCC must first vacate an order of the Federal High Court that barred it from investigating the financial transactions of the state government before the anti-graft agency can launch any probe, according to the governor.

“EFCC has no powers to look into our financial transactions. You cannot be giving our financial transactions to the EFCC because that is illegal.

“Unless the EFCC sets aside the judgment, they have no powers to look into our financial transactions. Not that we are afraid, but due process must be followed.”

The governor also threatened Zenith Bank to commence the necessary processes if it failed to obey the court judgment.
