Just today, 26th March 2020, the United Bank of Africa (UBA), through its Group Chairman (Tony Elumelu), made known her pledge to support Africa’s fight against coronavirus with a sum of five billion naira to be shared between Nigeria and 19 other African countries. The donation, according to UBA, is to provide support to 20 African countries “by supplying relief materials, critical care facilities, and financial support to Governments.”
Tony Elumelu further encouraged the private sector to get partner with the government in fighting this menace. In his words: “As we see a rapidly increasing number of cases of the coronavirus in Nigeria and Africa, the private sector has to work hand in hand with various Governments, in stemming the spread of the global pandemic.”
Many more, such as Dunamis Church, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, Dr and Dr (Mrs) Paul Enenche, have also extended their hands to help support the government in this fight against coronavirus.
