The Ebonyi State government, in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus into the state, declared the closure of her borders.

However about 30 returnees who wished to enter the state found a way in the bush and crossed over into the state from Enugu, where vehicles were already waiting to pick them up to their various locations.
However these escapees were apprehended, and together with about 7 other returnees, were taken to a quarantine centre in Abakaliki township stadium where they would be subjected to daily medical examination for 14 days.

The governor of the state, Governor David Umahi, visited them at about 9pm that night and ordered them to remain at the centre for the 14 days testing, and ordered the security operatives that any of them that tries to escape be shot on sight. This is in a bid to make sure that the state does not witness an invasion of coronavirus.
