The God That Answers Prayers

The God That Answers Prayers

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Let’s look at this short story about Bimpe, as we seek to understand the God that answers prayers. Bimpe ensured that everyone around her felt her sadness and displeasure. She sighed sadly, squeezed her face, hissed many times, kept a low profile and didn’t give much attention when spoken to.

God had not answered her prayers. This was like the hundredth time she had asked for Sola, her friend, who was failing miserably at school. Her last test score was poor and the rest of the class made fun of her when the teacher announced the scores.

Wasn’t God supposed to answer prayers? Wasn’t He the All-Powerful and Great God? The All-Knowing, All-Seeing and All-Doing God? She couldn’t help but wonder why God didn’t want Sola to do well at school.

‘You have been sighing and frowning since you came back from school and all morning too,’ her mother said to her later that day. ‘What’s going on with you? Care to share?’

‘It’s God,’ Bimpe replied.

‘What about God?’

‘He didn’t answer my prayer.’

‘What have you been praying for?’

‘I have been asking Him to help Sola pass her exams and tests at school.’

‘And how do you know so?’ her mother asked again.

‘She failed the test again yesterday. Doesn’t God answer prayers anymore?’

‘Of course, He still answers prayers and will always do so.’

Her mother wondered why she would ask such a question.

Then why hasn’t He answered my prayers? Why is Sola still failing her tests?’

‘Is she studying as she should? Does she listen in class and understand her lessons?’

‘She does, mum. She sits beside me in class.’

‘Have you tried asking her what the problem is and maybe help her study after school?’

Bimpe paused and thought about this. She had never asked Sola that. ‘No, mommy. I have never asked her what the problem was.’

‘There goes your answered prayer.’

Have you ever felt like Bimpe?
Apart from praying for someone, you can always ask them what the problem is and see if you can help. That can be your answered prayers sometimes.

Have a blessed day, God bless you. Amen.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the many ways you answer my prayers.

Action plan:
Be more detailed when talking to God.

Declaration:
I receive answers to all my prayers.

What Do You Do When God Is Not Answering You?

What Do You Do When God Is Not Answering You?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Sandra has been a child of God in all respect. She serves God with her time and energy, but she is not happy. She is getting older and all her prayers about getting the right man and settling in marriage seemed unanswered. Why does it seem God is not answering her prayers?

Bode on the other hand is married, but his marriage is full of challenges. His sweet fiancée then, is no longer his sweet wife after three years of marriage and he is wondering why he is getting tired of his marriage, and it looks like God is not answering all his prayers to salvage the situation.

Let’s delve into the scriptures, as we trust the Holy Spirit to bring to the fore precious truths that are specific to our situations.

And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? (Mark 4:37-40 KJV)

Let’s pick it up from verse 37

Verse 37
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

There are two things I want you to see in this verse.

There arose a great storm of wind.
In life, we have not been promised that there would never be storms, but that in the midst of the storm, if we can trust and look unto God, we will not be hurt! Our father has promised us a resounding victory in the midst of the storm.

The waves beat into the ship.
The storms of life are targeted at you. It doesn’t mean you have done something wrong, it only means you are a child of God and the devil is not comfortable with that!

Let’s take a look at the next verse.

Verse 38
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

After the disciples have done all they could and yet the storm persisted rather than be abated, they went to Jesus out of frustration, and to their consternation, Jesus was asleep.

In Message translation, they said:

“Teacher, is it nothing to you that we’re going down?”

How many times have you been there in your marital issues and you are like,

‘Master, carest not thou that I am single?’
‘Teacher, is it nothing to you that I am getting old?’
‘Master, carest not thou that my husband is wayward?’
‘Teacher, is it nothing to you that I am being abused by one guy after the other?’
‘Master, carest not thou about my finances, career, or marital issues?’
‘Master, is it nothing to you that I am still childless?’

How many times have we felt like the disciples in our lives? Where is God? Why have the answers to my prayers lingered this much? Lord, where are you?

What did Jesus do?
What will you do if it seems God is not answering you?

We will continue from there tomorrow. Don’t miss it!

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY
I walk in faith, not in fear. God is answering my prayers.

How To Get God To Answer Your Prayers

How To Get God To Answer Your Prayers

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Temiloluwa ensured that everyone around her felt her sadness and displeasure. She sighed sadly, squeezed her face, hissed many times, kept a low profile and didn’t give much attention when spoken to. Have you ever felt like Temiloluwa?

Apart from praying for someone, you can always ask them what the problem is and see if you can help. That can be your answered prayers sometimes.

Temiloluwa asked Tina what the problem was and discovered that Tina felt timid in asking questions when she didn’t understand the lessons. With this knowledge, Temiloluwa was able to explain and teach her friend, and in no time, Tina’s grades improved at school.

Answered prayers, right?

Have a blessed day, God bless you. Amen.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the many ways you answer my prayers. You are the All-Knowing, All-Seeing, and All-Doing God. Blessed be Your name. Amen.

How To Secure Your Home Through A Soft Answer

How To Secure Your Home Through A Soft Answer

Reading Time: 2 minutes

This morning, by the Holy Spirit, I want to show us something that will help eliminate quarrels that might lead to strife, malice, hurts, and offenses in our marriages. That something is a soft answer.

It looks very simple because I have observed that the things that make for great success in life are simple yet profound. Their simplicity, however does not make them easy to do. If they were that easy, we shouldn’t be having issues in our marriages.

However, because of our pride, ego, human tendencies, selfishness, lack of patience and understanding, we cannot bring ourselves to do it.

What I am talking about is our responses. How we communicate with our spouse. Our response is very important at every point in time. In fact, our response is so important it gives direction to what happens next. The initial words spoken are not as important as our responses.

Pro 15:1 KJV
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

As couples, we ought to pay extra attention on how we respond. As a wife, never allow your response to be out of anger. Learn what a soft answer means.

As a husband, learn what a soft answer is. It is better to turn away wrath in your marriage than to prove a point that ‘you are the son of your father’ or that you are the ‘man in the house.’

Does that mean that even when my wife or husband talks harshly to me I should not give it back to him? Well, that is exactly what that scripture is saying.

It is very difficult. That was why I earlier said that something is simple doesn’t make it easy to do. It takes our learning and decision plus determination.

You need to choose whether you want to hold on to your ego and respond to your wife or husband harshly or you want to master the art of a ‘soft answer’.

No matter how much you are tempted to answer harshly, don’t bulge, choose rather to give a soft answer. If God can have one person in the marriage give a soft answer, God will step in and turn away the wrath, strife, quarrel, offense, malice that will lead to hurt and unforgiving spirit.

God bless your marriage.
